We absolutely love this monitor, 9 months and we're still using it. I love that it comes with two pads and we took full advantage of this option. We used one pad for three months in the bassinet and the other monitor in the pack n play, we found it so easy to move the portable alarm from one pad to the other. We currently have the two pads in the crib and we sleep so soundly knowing that the monitor is there we absolutely love this monitor and we will definitely be using it for the next baby. The only problem we found is that when we have the ceiling fan on the highest speed the monitor mistakes it for the baby and will not go off. We tested is multiple times with the baby in the crib and out of the crib while the fan was on and it didn't go off. This of course was a an easy fix, we just don't use the fan on the highest setting.

I have literally never written a product review of any kind for anything before, and waited to write this review until the product was fully tested. Hope this helps...

I'm a first time parent, and was overly worried about SIDS. Because of this, we purchased an organic mattress, organic mattress pad, and cotton sheets. While these items are reported to greatly reduce the chances of SIDS, how does one sleep even a minute when their baby could stop breathing at any moment?

Enter... the infant movement monitor. Sounded like a great idea! But... expensive. While $100 in the grand scheme of having a healthy baby may seem like nothing, I'm not one to throw away good money on useless junk. However, the reviews seemed positive, and again I was overly worried, so I broke down and made the purchase. My wife and I were skeptical, but I felt it better to error on the side of caution, so made the purchase.

When we received the item, we were pleasantly surprised. Not only does the BabySense V product seem extremely well built, its simplistic design makes it usable by everyone (including non-techie Grandma). There's literally one button that toggles on/off. It makes two beeps when you turn it on to ensure the circuit is complete, and a green light blinks when movement is detected. Simple, fool-proof, and yet so very necessary.

Okay, so infant movement monitors are great. But why this particular model? Many reasons:
1) EMF - no transformers or plugs. Runs on just two 1.5v AA batteries.
2) Two is better than one - Comes with one sensor for the crib, and one for the bassinet (while young). Then the two plug together for use in the crib once your baby grows.
3) Simplistic design - No one will question how to use this. Even has a finger-safe cover for traveling to ensure you don't run your batteries low.
4) LARGE sensors - Minimal risk of your baby squirming out of reach of the sensor
5) No false alarms - Except at the 4am feeding when you might forget to turn it off, but then it pleasantly "ticks" a couple of times as a reminder before sounding the smoke-alarm sounding beeps.

I read the tips & tricks submitted by other users, and have done the following which may have contributed to us having no false alarms:
1) Get a 2'x4' thin sheet of plywood (Lowes sells them) and put on top of the spring board under your crib mattress sensor.
2) Get a full-sized sheet of cardboard (Michaels sells them) for use under your bassinet sensor.
3) Replace the batteries every 3 weeks. I haven't waited for the "low battery" light, which is when others suggested it might false-trip.

I'll admit I haven't tried competing products. But I read enough negative reviews about the Angelcare product to instead try this slightly more expensive product. This is a thoughtfully designed product, and I can't imagine anything being better. I will definitely be buying these for family members that become pregnant. Just listening to my mom share stories about sitting up all night with her hand on my back (since we grew up sleeping on our stomachs in the olden days) to ensure I was breathing is enough to tell me that my 5-6 hour stints of sleep should be appreciated. Bought for my daughter when she had her first child. She was admittedly "scared to death" about SIDS. She was reluctant to admit she was not sleeping well because of her fear. The monitor eased her fear. One false alarm (their fault, not anything to do with the unit) brought them running, needlessly. They use it all the time and admit it makes them sleep better. Highly recommend.
